Today Sophie and I were able to finish our Virtual Reality goggles. The lenses Andrew ordered for the class finally came today so we were able to work on the last couple steps in the process. We taped the two lenses to the portion of the goggles you look through to see the phone screen. The distance ended up being too far away from the phone so we had to shorten that by cutting the middle and outer rims of the goggles. This took us two times to finally get the right distance. We ended up with shorter VR goggles, but they still work. We also decided on using velcro to keep phones in the goggles without them falling out. This idea ended up working really well, we just had to staple pieces onto the goggles because otherwise it wouldn't stay. Our virtual reality scenes we had on my phone ended up not working with the goggles as well as we had hoped. When I was in Mexico over spring break, I took a bunch of photos with this app for our goggles. The app was supposed to create a 360 degree sphere for us to look at with the goggles, but it ended up not working. The pictures didn't split in half, which allows you to see the whole scene. They instead left the picture as if it were a regular one, cause the goggles to cut and distort the picture when you look in. We were able to find other videos on Youtube and used and app Sophie had on her phone that played a video of a pre-made VR scene video. It was really cool to watch these videos as if you were actually there. The roller coaster one Sophie had made you feel sometimes like you were actually moving. Overall, it was a really cool experience making these goggles, even with all the frustration of things not working or not being the right length. I extremely enjoyed being able to craft an actual pair of Virtual Reality goggles.
