Today Sophie and I got our first motor approved by Andrew. This means that tomorrow we can make and test the motor to see how well it works. We want to make a black powder cored motor. The black powder is made out of balsa and bamboo black powder combined. As we put the fuel in, we're going to tap it in between when we put pressure to pack the fuel together. This will help make sure the fuel is really compacted well to help give more thrust. We also decided to make the core only 80% instead of 100%. The reason we decided on this was because we wanted to see if the 20% that isn't cored will make the rocket slow down and kind of glide smoothly and to also hopefully give it more altitude. We're also hoping that the initial coring will help get it off the ground so that it can then steadily rise in altitude. Tomorrow we're going to have Andrew watch and make sure that we're making the motor right since this is our second time making one of these types of motors. The first time was when we watched Andrew give a demonstration on making the motors. If our motor ends up working well, then we'll make a second one to verify that it actually works consistently. Overall, today went well for Sophie and I and hopefully tomorrow we can test that our motor idea works well.
