Today Sophie and I were able to start making our nose cone. We decided on creating a nose cone made of several blocks of balsa wood stacked and glued together. Then, to make the nose cone into the shape we want, we're going to sand it down with a drill. During first period, we started this by cutting out the pieces of balsa wood that we would need. We want the nose cone to be close to 8 centimeters so we used five square pieces of the blocks. In order to cut them out we had to go outside to saw each piece to the size we needed. After we glued all the pieces together, we were able to sand down the nose cone to the general shape that we're trying to make. We want the nose cone to be rounded on the sides and then pointed at the top to help give our rocket a more cartoon look to it. So to get this shape we sanded down the sides of the glued blocks to a really rough cylinder of the circumference of the rocket body. By the end of third period, Sophie and I finished a rough outline of the nose cone.
