For the last day of my independent study, I volunteered at the San Diego Humane Society. Since we got back last night after midnight and had to unpack this morning, I did one of the afternoon dog shifts. While I was there last week, I was able to work with several of the dogs they recently received from China. Today, I was able to see people looking into potential adoption of these dogs. It was nice to see that some of the dogs I interacted with just last week have already found good homes and some have high potential to be adopted soon. I was able to again interact and socialize several of the dogs I saw last week, along with several new ones. I also helped feed several of the dogs, along with doing a spot check of making sure everyone's kennels were clean and that they had enough water.
Also, since a portion of the trip to Costa Rica was involving photography, I made a final grouping of some of the best and favorite shots from the week. During the week, I especially liked playing with the angles I used. I also immensely liked doing images of bridges since it creates some interesting line placements and draws the viewers' eyes throughout the photo.
The overall independent study has been a success for me. I was able to spend valuable time volunteering with animals that really need it. It was also nice to see how much of a benefit it was for the people who work there and how it helps make their jobs easier when they have more people they can rely on. I also really enjoyed getting to got to Costa Rica for a week of the study. It was an eye opening experience that helped me see what another country is like. The photography portion helped me learn the importance of the placement of the subject, along with how to use different shooting angles to get a stronger image.
